I am sketching out here opinions based on information, they may prove right, or may prove wrong, and they\u2019re intended just to challenge and be part of a wider dialogue.<br \/>&nbsp;<br \/>&nbsp;<\/i><i>My background is archaeology, so also history and anthropology. It leads me to look at big historical patterns. My theory is that most peoples\u2019 perspective of history is limited to the experience communicated by their parents and grandparents, so 50\u2013100 years. To go beyond that you have to read, study, and learn to untangle the propaganda that is inevitable in all telling of history. In a nutshell, at university I would fail a paper if I didn\u2019t compare at least two, if not three opposing views on a topic. Taking one telling of events as gospel doesn\u2019t wash in the comparative analytical method of research that forms the core of British academia.
