I used this sentence in a weekly newsletter from my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.schoolinfosystem.org\">schoolinfosystem.org<\/a> blog.<\/p>\n<p>Pondering this question,  I thought it might be useful to revisit the history of these words, at least in my experience.<\/p>\n<p>I have used variants of this statement since co-founding an internet software firm in 1995.  I referred to certain technologies, particularly during the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dot-com_bubble\">dot-com era<\/a> as &#8220;answers in search of questions&#8221;.  <\/p>\n<p>It is certainly possible that I heard this statement somewhere along the way.  Perhaps others have used different words.   <\/p>\n<p>I attended a conference in the late 1990&#8217;s which featured <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/#hl=en&#038;sclient=psy-ab&#038;q=%22Sam+Zell%22&#038;oq=%22Sam+Zell%22&#038;gs_l=hp.3..0l4.260809.264052.0.264259.12.11.1.0.0.0.512.1545.5j5j5-1.11.0.les%3B..0.0...1c.1.4.psy-ab.kdg6dYtiXSs&#038;pbx=1&#038;bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.&#038;bvm=bv.42768644,d.eWU&#038;fp=ec0991bddc456b56&#038;biw=1174&#038;bih=633\">entrepreneur Sam Zell<\/a>.  <\/p>\n<p>Zell took questions after his talk.  <\/p>\n<p>A dot.com founder chastised him and firms like his &#8220;Equity Group&#8221; for not adopting their &#8220;innovative services&#8221;.
