All of a sudden Open Data is seen as a high priority among various lobby groups, branches of government and in restoration planning<\/i>&#8221; says Hjalmar Gislason, an open data activist and member of the Open Knowledge Foundation\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/wiki.okfn.org\/wg\/euopendata\/\">Working Group on EU Open Data<\/a>. In a long and detailed post, <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.okfn.org\/2010\/03\/26\/iceland-from-the-financial-crisis-to-open-data\/\">Gislason explains<\/a> how this is not just part of the &#8220;momentum&#8221; open data is gaining in Europe, but a further step in a path that started in late &#8217;90s.<br \/>\nThe <a href=\"http:\/\/immi.is\/?l=en\">Icelandic Modern Media Initiative<\/a> and the presence of <a href=\"http:\/\/wikileaks.org\/\">Wikileaks<\/a> surely have a positive impact on the whole scenario and there is no doubt they will help boosting any future open data bill. The effects will be seen soon: &#8220;<i>In December a rare <a href=\"http:\/\/go2.wordpress.com\/?id=725X1342&amp;site=hjalli.wordpress.com&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.althingi.is%2Faltext%2F138%2Fs%2F0188.html\">cross-party  parliamentary proposal<\/a> (the first step in passing new legislation)  was made, proposing a \u201cdefault open\u201d strategy for any public sector  data.
