For the year, <a href=\"http:\/\/66.102.7.104\/search?q=cache:STUPi6hUUsQJ:news.com.com\/Digital%2Bmusic%2Bsales%2Bon%2Ba%2Bcrescendo\/2100-1027_3-6091069.html+music+sales+2006&amp;hl=en&amp;gl=us&amp;ct=clnk&amp;cd=2&amp;client=firefox-a\">CD album sales are down 4.2%<\/a>; although digital single downloads (still less than 10% of the business) are up 77% and are nearly making up the difference in revenue terms.&nbsp; <\/li>\n<li><strong>Radio<\/strong>: the music radio listening audience is <a href=\"http:\/\/news.com.com\/Digital+listening+growing,+radio+slipping\/2100-1027_3-5706376.html\">down 8.5% this year alone<\/a>, continuing a multi-decade decline. <\/li>\n<li><strong>DVDs<\/strong>: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.freep.com\/apps\/pbcs.dll\/article?AID=\/20060714\/ENT01\/607140322\/1036\">shipments are down 4% so far this year<\/a>, more than 30 million units behind the same period last year.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Newspapers<\/strong>: circulation, which peaked in 1987, is declining faster than ever and is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/news\/2006\/05\/08\/D8HFM6GOB.html\">down another 2.6% so far this year<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/news\/2006\/05\/08\/D8HFM6GOB.html\">.<\/a> <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Chris Anderson: TV: network TV had its lowest ratings week ever in July.
