{"id":15854,"date":"2025-07-13T01:05:00","date_gmt":"2025-07-13T07:05:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.zmetro.com\/?p=15854"},"modified":"2025-07-13T07:05:43","modified_gmt":"2025-07-13T13:05:43","slug":"7-13","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.zmetro.com\/?p=15854","title":{"rendered":"7.13"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>This post is about the reason I will probably never try to <a href=\"https:\/\/floort.net\/posts\/belgium-unsafe-for-cvd\/\">warn any organisation in Belgium about any vulnerability again<\/a>. Recently I have been dealing with an attempt at coordinated vulnerability disclosure (CVD) with an organisation in Belgium. This post is not about that, because I\u2019m not allowed to write about it. This post explains why I believe Belgium is unsafe for people trying to do CVD. I believe it\u2019s important to warn others so that they know what to expect and can decide for themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>as well as a <a href=\"https:\/\/theconversation.com\/shit-in-shit-out-ai-is-coming-for-agriculture-but-farmers-arent-convinced-259997\">wariness<\/a> of tech companies\u2019 utopian promises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The course will measure <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wisconsin.golf\/courses\/planned-for-270-acres-just-west-of-erin-hills-kettle-forge-envisioned-as-a-world\/article_fa0f5e3f-4601-4317-9226-c08e16263669.html\">7,600 yards from the tips<\/a>, which would make it one of the longest courses in Wisconsin, and will unfold across rolling land, with some holes routed through wetlands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CT is an intrinsically distributed system: CAs must submit each certificate to two CT logs operated by third parties and trusted by the browsers. This list is, and has been for a couple years, uncomfortably short. There just aren\u2019t as many independent log operators as we\u2019d like. Operating a log right now would be an immense contribution to the security of virtually every Internet user. It also comes with the <a href=\"https:\/\/words.filippo.io\/run-sunlight\/\">bragging rights to claim that your public key<\/a> is on&nbsp;<em>billions<\/em>&nbsp;of devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However much you like to be reminded of your vacuum cleaner&#8217;s power, the <a href=\"https:\/\/2earth.github.io\/website\/20250707.html\">over-emphasis on statement-making<\/a> is itself a disturbance from using the product. For many product categories symbolic value allows us to express our individual tastes and values &#8211; and that\u2019s great. But for the categories Dyson operate in we largely want to ignore the product, complete the task and get on with our lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Leon Black, founder of Apollo Global Management, paid Epstein $158 million for &#8220;tax advice.&#8221; In 2023, Black paid $62M for <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/sollenbergerrc\/status\/1942415820333674533?s=46\">immunity<\/a> in an Epstein suit, admitting his money helped fund Epstein&#8217;s operations. It&#8217;s what I&#8217;d have said at age 24. By the way, I just watched a movie made by a 24-year-old woman, and I got the feeling it was exactly the kind of story I thought up when I was that age. Not saying I could have made the movie that topped the Sight &amp; Sound&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bfi.org.uk\/sight-and-sound\/greatest-films-all-time\">&#8220;Greatest Films of All Time,&#8221;<\/a>&nbsp;just saying I remember these young-woman thoughts.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those days are long gone. I\u2019ve driven nearly every BYD model and they are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/07\/08\/opinion\/byd-china-car-ev.html\">now as good as other top brands like Tesla<\/a> in terms of design, features, advanced technologies and overall quality. The company\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.electrifying.com\/blog\/best-cars\/innovation-of-the-year-byd-blade-battery#:~:text=Again%2C%20that's%20great%20for%20those,withstand%20the%20most%20severe%20accidents.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Blade Battery<\/a>&nbsp;is among the safest and most&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/evinfo.net\/2024\/04\/innovative-new-byd-blade-battery-lowers-cost-and-increases-range-of-evs-to-1000-km\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cost-efficient<\/a>&nbsp;in the world, so good that&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/cnevpost.com\/2023\/04\/17\/toyota-bz3-with-byd-battery-motor-launched-in-china\/#:~:text=The%20FAW%20Toyota%20bZ3%20will,ToyotaProduct%20LaunchToyota%20bZ3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Toyota<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thedriven.io\/2023\/05\/22\/teslas-switch-to-byd-batteries-is-achieving-faster-charging-times\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tesla<\/a>&nbsp;have used it in some of their cars. Most worrying for its competitors, BYDs are affordable: Its least expensive models sell in China for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/autos-transportation\/chinas-byd-lowers-starting-price-its-lowest-priced-ev-model-seagull-by-54-2024-03-06\/#:~:text=Show%20more%20companies,a%20wider%20number%20of%20models.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">under $10,000<\/a>, a third of the price of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cars.com\/articles\/here-are-the-11-cheapest-electric-vehicles-you-can-buy-439849\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">most affordable electric vehicles<\/a>&nbsp;available in the U.S. market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3\/ The topline result is below. The <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/andrewhammel1\/status\/1942178714520826222?s=12\">average suspects per 100,000 rate for Germans is 1878<\/a>. The highest rates are, in order, Afghans (8753), Iraqis (8638), Syrians (8236), and Bulgarians (7058). These numbers don&#8217;t include crimes related to immigration issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact, the rot runs much deeper. Americans can see that something is wrong, especially when it is staring them in the face: Navy \u201cbureaus\u201d that cannot&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/cdrsalamander.substack.com\/p\/constellation-frigate-antigone\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"rm-stats-tracked\"><u>design ships<\/u><\/a>, builders that&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marineinsight.com\/shipping-news\/u-s-navy-faces-worst-shipbuilding-struggles-in-25-years-due-to-labor-shortages-rising-costs\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"rm-stats-tracked\"><u>cannot build<\/u><\/a>, shipyards that&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/gcaptain.com\/navy-shipbuilding-crisis-gao-finds-billions-spent-without-strategy-as-fleet-goals-remain-unmet\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"rm-stats-tracked\"><u>cannot repair<\/u><\/a>, depots running out of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/news\/world\/houthi-attacks-exposed-us-navy-issues-over-ammo-supplies-says-admiral\/ar-AA1EQjAO\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"rm-stats-tracked\"><u>munitions<\/u><\/a>, command&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/theaviationist.com\/2025\/02\/20\/uss-truman-commander-fired\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"rm-stats-tracked\"><u>failures<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/responsiblestatecraft.org\/admiral-convicted-bribery\/\" class=\"rm-stats-tracked\"><u>corruption<\/u><\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/features.propublica.org\/navy-accidents\/us-navy-crashes-japan-cause-mccain\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"rm-stats-tracked\"><u>accidents<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;at sea, and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/gcaptain.com\/maritime-historian-slams-us-navy-over-bonhomme-richard-fire-report\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"rm-stats-tracked\"><u>billion-dollar fires<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;in port.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The disorder is in fact positioned in the heart of the Navy Ethos itself. The precise term-of-art \u2014 \u201cNavy Ethos\u201d \u2014 was first introduced in 1980,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/digital-commons.usnwc.edu\/usnwc-historical-monographs\/4\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"rm-stats-tracked\"><u>here<\/u><\/a>. It signifies the core, or essence of the Navy\u2019s sense of self: Its codification of meaning, belonging, and identity \u2014 as a society and culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hence, the <a href=\"https:\/\/responsiblestatecraft.org\/us-navy-crisis\/\">real story of the Navy\u2019s roads to ruin lies<\/a> in the unraveling of the Navy\u2019s own Ethos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the people familiar, the available information on the black boxes at this point cannot rule in or out <a href=\"https:\/\/theaircurrent.com\/aviation-safety\/ai171-investigation-fuel-control-switches\/\">improper, inadvertent or intentional actions that preceded<\/a> or followed the apparent loss of thrust before the aircraft crashed into a hostel for students at BJ Medical College. It is not known to&nbsp;<em>TAC<\/em>&nbsp;whether one or both of the fuel control switches for the GE engines in the cockpit were moved in the moments after takeoff from Runway 23 in Ahmedabad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The cross of Christ is the <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/foundationdads\/status\/1942930823172222980?s=12\">ultimate call to adventure for any man willing to fight<\/a>. It is a call for young men to glory in their strength and enthusiasm while storing up plunder for themselves in heaven, instead of working for self-aggrandizement and passing pleasure. It is a call to make the epic a reality and to take your rightful place in it. And instead, we use the cross to domesticate our men.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So to address <a href=\"https:\/\/marginalrevolution.com\/marginalrevolution\/2025\/07\/gavis-ill-advised-venture-into-african-industrial-policy.html\">vaccine inequity, GAVI<\/a> is investing in local production\u2026.but the need to manufacture \u201cdemand solidarity\u201d among African governments reveals both the flaw in the premise and the weakness of the plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In practice, as we\u2019re going to briefly outline,&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/acoup.blog\/2025\/07\/04\/collections-the-american-civil-military-relationship\/\">American civ-mil<\/a> is, in a sense, fundamentally based on a&nbsp;<em>bargain<\/em>, the foundations of which date to the American Revolution but which has evolved and solidified since then<\/strong>. That bargain has been remarkably successful: the United States has avoided the sort of major civ-mil disjunctures (like military coups) that are often distressingly common in many states and has done so for two and a half centuries.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/acoup.blog\/2025\/07\/04\/collections-the-american-civil-military-relationship\/#easy-footnote-bottom-1-30280\">1<\/a><\/sup>&nbsp;That isn\u2019t to say the American civ-mil has been forever untroubled, as we\u2019ll see:&nbsp;<strong>it is an evolving bargain, based on norms and thus fundamentally both precious and fragile<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/commentisfree\/2025\/jul\/08\/postmasters-innocent-jail-post-office-report-miscarriage-justice\">Innocent subpostmasters<\/a> went to jail, but now it is clear: the Post Office boss class belong there instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A Hotel Made Famous by Graham Greene Is a Victim of Haiti\u2019s Violence. Haiti\u2019s famed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/07\/07\/world\/americas\/haiti-oloffson-hotel-fire-port-au-prince.html\">Oloffson Hotel<\/a>, a cultural landmark and celebrity haven, was incinerated amid rising violence by gangs that control most of the country\u2019s capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This teaches us two things (well actually, two things relevant to this abbreviated discussion today): first, that in the system of government God personally designed, the legislative body (admittedly a bit less of a Congress and more of a Constitutional Convention, but elected and representative which is the principal point) had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rodmartin.org\/p\/extra-was-the-american-revolution\">power to elect and to dismiss Kings<\/a>; and second, that this power was in fact used lawfully, more than once (it comes up again after David\u2019s death as well as Solomon\u2019s) and with God\u2019s express approval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What&#8217;s more, the report notes &#8220;a <a href=\"https:\/\/madison.com\/news\/state-regional\/government-politics\/article_17c18dc8-3097-486a-ab81-a5145f6c6ad5.html#tracking-source=home-top-story\">complete lack of leadership<\/a>&#8221; from both Witzel-Behl and deputy city clerk James Verbick. &#8220;It was the job of the City Clerk to immediately take action once notified about the found ballots, and she did nothing,&#8221; according to the report. &#8220;It was the responsibility of the Deputy Clerk to take action in her absence, and he did nothing. TBL analyzed the July 9 tariff rates as if they stayed in effect in perpetuity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s full service. Labor costs are higher. Food costs are a little bit higher. So it\u2019s just harder to operate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then we look at Miko Poke, which had a great run.
