Astonishing, swift, fun, explosive, svelte and a tremendous value &#8211; my thoughts while driving the 6-speed manual ST. Ford has certainly come a long way from generic, boring cars.<br \/><Br>My pre-purchase checklist:<Br>Pro ST: <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<ol>\n<li>Value: roughly $23K for the base model\n<li>Subtle: the black ST is quite elegant and understated &#8211; the opposite of some of the brighter options.\n<li>Loads of torque\n<li>Impressive hatch storage space (I would trade this for more headroom)\n<li>Base model is available without the microsoft bits known as &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/duckduckgo.com\/?q=%22MyFord+Touch%22\">MyFord Touch<\/a>&#8220;\n<li>Five door hatchback is a great, flexible car.\n<li>Fuel economy: 23\/32; 26 combined mpg.  Impressive.\n<li>Assembled in <a href=\"http:\/\/quickfacts.census.gov\/qfd\/states\/26000.html\">Michigan<\/a>.\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/duckduckgo.com\/?q=%22Middleton+Ford%22\">Middleton Ford&#8217;s<\/a>  (Keith Norris) customer service was quite good.  They kept in touch regularly via email, answering questions and offering several different configuration options.  Madison&#8217;s long time Ford dealer &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/duckduckgo.com\/?q=%22Kayser+ford%22\">Kayser<\/a> &#8211; was fine in person but non-existent on subsequent inquiries.<\/ol>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Con ST: <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<ol>\n<li>Heated seats can only be had on the most expensive model, known as the ST3.  One must accept the microsoft\/MyFord Touch bits along with leather Recaro seats and other goodies.  I prefer simplicity all around.\n<li>Interior room: at about 6&#8217;2&#8243;, I was somewhat cramped in the ST&#8217;s front seats.  The back seats were serviceable, but not terribly comfortable.  Headroom is limited.\n<li>6 speed manual only, <a href=\"http:\/\/social.ford.com\/your-ideas\/technologies\/convenience\/focus-st-with-dct-option-please\/\">no DCT<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.vw.com\/en\/dsg\/nav\/what-is-dsg.html\">DSG<\/a>).  I have long enjoyed three pedal cars, but after driving the latest <a href=\"https:\/\/duckduckgo.com\/?q=%22GTI+DSG%22\">GTI DSG<\/a>, I am a convert\u2026.<\/ol>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Several ST reviews:<br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.automobilemag.com\/reviews\/driven\/1206_2013_ford_focus_st_first_drive\/\">Georg Kacher<\/a><br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.topgear.com\/uk\/ford\/focus\/road-test\/st-driven\">Top Gear<\/a><br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wired.com\/reviews\/2013\/05\/ford-focus-st\/\">Wired<\/a> <br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.focusst.org\/\">Focus ST Forum<\/a> <Br> <a href=\"https:\/\/duckduckgo.com\/?q=%22Focus+ST%22\">duckduckgo.com search<\/a> <br \/>UK&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.carmagazine.co.uk\/Drives\/Search-Results\/Long-term-tests\/Ford-Focus-ST-2013-long-term-test-review\/\">CAR magazine<\/a> <br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=%22Focus%20ST%22&#038;src=typd\">Twitter Search<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=%23Focusst&#038;src=typd\">#FocusST<\/a><br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/txgarage.com\/2013\/04\/full-review-of-the-2013-ford-focus-st\/\">TX Garage<\/a><br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.autoextremist.com\/on-the-table1\/2010\/5\/17\/on-the-table.html\">Peter DeLorenzo<\/a><br \/><Br><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ford.com\">Ford<\/a> is to be commended for creating, shipping and supporting the Focus ST. I would have owned one but for the tight interior and lack of a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dual-clutch_transmission\">DCT<\/a> transmission option.
