Honda has introduced a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.autoweek.com\/news.cms?newsId=100747\">new version for 2005<\/a>.   There&#8217;s an interesting fuel saving  feature in the new Honda: cylinder &#8220;deactiviation&#8221;.   <\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i> The fuel-saving feature automatically switches between 6-cylinder and 3-cylinder combustion, depending on driving conditions.<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Interestingly, and typically, this is not a new idea.<br \/>\nGeneral Motors actually pioneered the volume production  (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.motorera.com\/history\/hist03.htm\">there were earlier concepts<\/a>) of turning off cylinders to save fuel with their  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cadillacforums.com\/cadillac\/tech\/684.html\">variable displacement V8-6-4 engine<\/a>, available in 1981.   Evidently, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.100megsfree4.com\/cadillac\/cad1980\/cad81.htm\">reliability problems<\/a> doomed this effort.<br \/>\nNow comes Honda, and others with the same useful concept.   They will likely make it work and make money (I imagine that today&#8217;s much more advanced computers and software play a big role in the success of these efforts).<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wildehonda.com\/en_US\/\">Wilde Honda<\/a>, <a href=\"\">Rock County Honda<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zimbrick.com\">Zimbrick Honda<\/a> sell them.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The popular Honda Odyssey is often seen at Madison area soccer, swimming, football, basketball and academic events, among others.
