This <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pressherald.com\/news\/state\/040212laptops.shtml\" TITLE=\"Maine Today Article\">article describes<\/a> a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rand.org\/publications\/TR\/TR107\/\" TITLE=\"Rand Survey\">survey<\/a> Maine&#8217;s 2 year old 7th &#038; 8th grade program.<br \/>\nThere are many challenges to successful technology implementations, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Opportunity cost (dollars &#038; time)  What are we not doing when we&#8217;re spending money on laptops &#038; overhead for them?\n<li>Training &#038; Support\n<li>Things change fast, are we better off to support our student&#8217;s critical thinking, rather than the latest <a href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/windows\/\">windows<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/macosx\/\">mac<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.linux.org\/\">linux<\/a> pc?  (I think we are).
